Mrs. Koch's First Grade Class, and Mrs. Raboin's Fourth Grade Class helped the Hyde Park Partners in Education (P.I.E.) collect and deliver Halloween candy to the Lanpher Library for distribution to Hyde Park Village Residents to give out on Halloween! Mrs. Raboin's class calculated the total amount of candy collected at 1,294.96 ounces, or 80.935 pounds...rounded up, it's 81 pounds! They pushed 3 shopping carts up Main Street to the Library and got it all into the building "bucket brigade" style! If you live in the Village, and want some candy to give out to the multitude of Trick or Treaters on Saturday, stop by the Lanpher Library, or call us 888-4628 and we'll be sure to let P.I.E. know so they can deliver it to you on Friday, October 30th. The Lanpher Memorial Library is partnering with Hyde Park Partners in Education (P.I.E.) to collect candy to distribute to people who live in Hyde Park Village to give out on Halloween night. Hyde Park Village is a fun, safe and popular place to go Trick-or-Treating and the donations are a great way to make sure that everyone can participate in the fun. We will collect the candy here until October 31st.
Mrs. Raboin's class and Mrs. Koch's class at Hyde Park Elementary School will be collecting donations at school too. If you live in Hyde Park Village, or you know someone who lives in the Village who wants some candy for Halloween, you may call, or stop by the Lanpher Library to be added to the list and PIE will deliver, or will have some here for you to pick up. 802-888-4628 On Saturday, October 10th, please join us at the Lanpher Memorial Library for Hyde Park Stories of Yesteryear. For those who set goals by the number of books read: 980 For those who set goals by number of minutes: 25,965 minutes A Summer Reading Story, by Amy Olsen A man who uses the Lanpher Library told me that he and his wife care for their 6 and 3 year old grandchildren 3 days/week. His 6 year old grandchild set a summer reading goal to read a book to him every day. So, every day after lunch, the two of them would sit together and the grandchild would read to him. As the summer went on, he looked forward to their reading time. He noticed patterns in the grandchild's reading, helped with learning new words and saw improvements in the reading abilities. He said: "I worry sometimes that my younger grandchildren won't have as vivid memories of me as my older grandchildren. I hope (my grandchild) will always remember this summer and the time we spent together reading." MONDAY, AUGUST 17TH AT 6:00 AT LOWE LECTURE HALL ON MAIN STREET IN JOHNSON! TIM JENNINGS AND LEANNE PONDER Wolves! Folktales where the wolf is not the bad guy. It seems like folktale wolves are always the villains of the stories they are in. But wolf-lovers rejoice! Here are three traditional tales from Asia and Eastern Europe that show these wonderful animals in a very different light: as heroes, worthy of our love and respect. Tim and Leanne have been performing together for over 25 years. They are married, and live in Montpelier with a feisty little dog and a marmalade cat. This program is FREE and all ages are welcome to come. Sponsored by the Johnson Public Library, the Lanpher Memorial Library with a grant from the VT Dept. of Libraries. We have handed out dozens of Family Reads BINGO challenge cards. Each square has a literacy activity designed to complete together as a family. For each BINGO your family gets, you can enter to win great prizes....tickets to the Pump House at Jay Peak, Santa's Village, The Montshire Museum, a season pass to the Fairbanks Museum, a season pass to Shelburne Farms, a family day pass to the Shelburne Museum.
